Welcome...
Welcome to the website of Our Lady of Graces Catholic Parish, Carina. I hope you find our website useful, with answers to any questions you may have. Please feel free to ring the parish office if there is anything further we may be able to do for you.
Since its very beginning, just over 50 years ago, Our Lady of Graces has been a Dominican parish, staffed by a community of Dominican friars. We belong to one of the older religious orders in the Church, founded by St Dominic in the early years of the 13th century. Dominic wanted to help people towards a deeper relationship with God through a better understanding of what God has revealed to us about himself and about what God has made possible for us.
Whether you are already one of our parishioners or not, we would welcome any ideas about how we could improve this website. If you are considering joining our parish community, we ask you to fill in the folder for new parishioners at the back of the church, and we will do our best to make you feel ‘at home.’

SAFEGUARDING TRAINING SESSIONS
..for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Mark 10:14
The Archdiocese of Brisbane holds that children, young people and vulnerable adults are a gift from God with an intrinsic right to dignity of life, respect and security from physical and emotional harm. They are to be treasured, nurtured and safeguarded by all.
This means that everyone in the church must ensure that the fundamental rights of children, young people and vulnerable adults are respected. This will be achieved through the development of respectful relationships and a commitment to safety embracing appropriate boundaries, behaviours and practices, in accordance with the Archdiocese of Brisbane Code of Ethical Behaviour for Employees and Volunteers who work in service of the Church as well as adherence to the legislative imperatives of the State.
The office can confirm that Our Lady of Graces will host a session on Wednesday 31 October from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Dominic Centre. To secure a place for this evening, you will need to email Ashleigh at the Parish office. If you cannot attend this session, please contact the parish office for the dates and times for the sessions in the city.

PLENARY 2020 to shape the future of the Catholic Church in Australia
Catholics might have heard about an event happening in two years time in the Catholic Church in Australia called the Plenary Council 2020. They might be under the impression it’s just another meeting of bishops to discuss various matters—something that will not greatly affect them or other ordinary Catholics.
Well, it’s not. It’s actually a meeting of the entire Church in Australia, meaning everyone—bishops, clergy, religious and lay faithful—with the intention of shaping the future course of the Catholic Church in this country. And while if won’t affect matters of doctrine, it will have legislative power to mould practices within the Australian Catholic Church. So, as a Catholic, the outcome of the meeting will most definitely affect you. In theory, everyone will be allowed a voice. The word “Plenary” simply mans “entire” or “open”.
Through Plenary 2020, the Catholic Church in Australia will determine its structures and strategies for the future. And this of course will affect its mission of evangelisation—how it will spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in a culture increasingly adverse to Christian values. There really couldn’t be a more pressing matter of consideration for Catholics in Australia at this point in time. And this is a theme that Pope Francis has emphasised—how do we evangelise in a culture moving rapidly away from the Christian world view?To read more about Plenary 2020 please see the current newsletter.
